Trash to Treasure
Urban and Public Furniture Design
A sitting unit made of 100% recycled trash. Paper tubes and Used plastic grocery bags turning into construction material allowing steady structures. The idea for this project came from the industrial factories and craft-men shops that surrounding my studio. I notice a lot of paper tubes getting thrown away after they they end of use. they came must from the textile factories, the fabrics were rolled on the paper tubes. I thought that the paper tubes preform as a steady material, just like wood logs or metal profiles. That leads me to the idea of making functional furniture out of the paper tubes. the furnitures will expose the potential of the paper tubes as re-useable material. I wanted to create a desired finish to maximise the aesthetic of the tubes also by look but it was important for me to create a 100% recycled materials object. The idea of using plastic grocery bags for the finished came for school project i did years ago, when i collected used plastic bags, cleaned and melt them into solid finish vases. I thought that could be a perfect match. I used black and white plastic bags to create a marble look finish for maximising the aesthetics of the plastic bags. The final results of this projects are functional bench and chair.
