Urban and Public Design
I chose to design a school desk for children in K-3rd grade. I designed this desk for space efficiency, storage, customization, and sanitation. I re-worked the traditional rectangular prism form of a school desk and made it more versatile for active learning. The standard school desks used today decrease classroom efficiency because they’re difficult to move or store away if the classroom layout needs to be changed. The cubbies down the dies of the desk can store anything from pencils to a lunchbox. The students can customize the height of the desktop by removing the desk top and flipping it over. The desk can be lowered or raised three inches based on the preference of the child. Lastly, in a post-COVID world, health and sanitation are the top priority. To solve that I designed this desk to be easy to clean and also have an anti-microbial coating.
