Ba°lat
Innovative and Tech Projects
The project stems from the need in our age to find an eco-sustainable solution using the recycling of food waste. Ba°lat wants to tell a story: that of the social redemption of the people of South East Asia and that of the fight against the prejudices of the color of the skin, as did Josephine Baker. The thesis project is based on the idea of reusing banana peel waste and its insertion within the circular economy, obtaining an eco-sustainable and recyclable material, as an alternative to animal skin. During my personal research I came to the conclusion that, as in the pig, also in the banana tree it is really minimal. In fact, by cutting the jamb of the banana tree, I was able to obtain a fabric, weaving the fibers with the help of a loom. By combining the ripe pulp and the skins with natural binders, however, I obtained twelve bioplastics with different textures similar to leather.
