Replastique
Urban and Public Furniture Design
Replastique is a startup that turns post-consumer plastics into valuable products. The project was born out of in outrage at the use, disposal and improper reuse of plastic. So we propose a solution to transform single-use plastic into long-lasting products, reframing the material. We found out the Precious Plastic project (preciousplastic.com) which enabled us to build machines that process the recycled plastic. Moreover, we incubated Replastique at Instituto Gene (institutogene.org.br) and signed partnership with Greenplace Park (greenplacepark.com) where we are developing the factory. Thus Voluta 821 luminaire was created from a mold built with recycled scrap and by processing 1,8 Kg of plastic removed from the environment. The material is consisted of post-consumer plastic packaging and PET bottle caps that give the colors. The bottle caps and plastic packaging are provided by the community, NGOs and a waste pickers’ cooperative. We are getting ready to sell up the luminaires. In addition to recycling plastic, our purpose is to awaken creativity for the intelligent use of waste, aligned to the Millennium Development Goals.
